MEADOW BROWN Maniola jurtina

The maps indicate a stable and general distribution over most of Lancashire and Cheshire. I feel however that in some localities, incuding the Mersey Valley, it has become scarcer and more restricted in recent years, possibly being out-competed by the spreading species such as P. tithonus and (in the Oldham area) A. hyperantus.
