PEACOCK Inachis io

The maps seem to show a considerable increase in the second and third periods obver the first period. Inspite of the increased recording effort in the second and third period I believe that tis does represent a genuine increase. In many years sin ce the 1990s this species has been more numerous than A. urticae; such never used to be the case. Ths butterfly will se a very wide range of habitats, from woodlands through scrub and grassland to agricultural land, river valleys and waste land within cities. It cansometimes breed in numbers quite high up on the hills, large boods of adults emerging synchronously.

THE THREE PERIODS COMPARED

PERIOD 1 (1940-1994) WITH RECORDING COVERAGE, ALTITUDE AND URBAN COVER

PERIOD 2 (1995-2000) WITH RECORDING COVERAGE, ALTITUDE AND URBAN COVER

PERIOD 3 (2001-2007) WITH RECORDING COVERAGE, ALTITUDE AND URBAN COVER
