[BACK TO LIST]
GREEN HAIRSTREAK Callophrys rubi
A species mainly of higher ground in the Pennine foothills, frequenting sheltered slopes and declivities with abundant bilberry. In Cheshire it occurs on low-lying mosses, and in north Lancashire it occurs on the Morecambe Bay limestones. Although the maps seem to show a considerable increase in south Lancashire, this may be due to greater efforts, especially by R.S.Greenwood, to locate hitherto undiscovered colonies.
