BRIMSTONE Gonepteryx rhamni

The impression ganed in the Manchester area over the years is that this species has increased in numbers and extended its range; but the maps do not seem to show quite such a general increase as this would seem to have implied. There has always been an abundance around the Morecambe Bay limestone (SD47). One wonders whether the apparent concentraion of records all along the line of the Manchester Ship Canal in the second and third periods is genuine or merely a result of recorder bias.

THE THREE PERIODS COMPARED

PERIOD 2 (1995-2000) WITH RECORDING COVERAGE, ALTITUDE AND URBAN COVER

PERIOD 3 (2001-2007) WITH RECORDING COVERAGE, ALTITUDE AND URBAN COVER
